20-04-2024 | Newsroom | email: info@pronews.gr Russia to transfer 24 Su-35 fighter jets to Iran Iran is preparing for a conflict with Israel: It receives next week 24 Su-35 from Russia Tehran's agreement with Moscow is finally moving forward Russia is set to deliver next week 24 of its most advanced Su-35S fighter jets. This is according to foreign reports which emphasize that Russia is ready to help Iran strengthen its air defence with both Su-35s and satellite services and ballistic missile technology. The case of the supply of Su-35s to Iran has been going on for a long time without anything tangible until now. Following Russia's purchase of Iranian suicide drones, the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) has reportedly considered acquiring the Sukhoi Su-35 in exchange for further deliveries of ammunition, drones and ballistic missiles to Russia. It was also reported that the training of Iranian pilots had started in the spring of 2022 and that the aircraft were ready to be delivered in 2023. The deal included the 24 Su-35s that had been built for Egypt, but to date there have been no clear reports of their delivery to Iran. The deal was confirmed by Iran's state-run Tasnim news agency on December 28, 2022 and on January 15, 2023 by an Iranian lawmaker who said supplies would begin in the spring and also said Iran has ordered air defence and missile systems from Russia as well as helicopters. However, in July 2023, Iranian defence Minister Mohammad-Reza Gharaei Ashtiani made vague statements suggesting that Iran was reconsidering the acquisition of the Su-35 due to increasing investment in domestic fighter manufacturing capabilities, leading some sources to state that the deal has collapsed. In the meantime the Iranian Air Force has received the advanced Yak-130 trainer. On November 28, 2023, Iran's deputy defence minister announced that Iran had finalized a deal to purchase Su- 35 aircraft from Russia, although no further details on the quantity or timing were shared. For three hours, everything shows that even after the tension with Israel, Iran seems to be proceeding with the acquisition of the aircraft, considering that they will significantly strengthen it. Iran is set to receive around 24 advanced Russian Su-35 'Flanker-E' fighter jets, significantly upgrading its ageing air force. The Su-35 is a formidable 4++ generation multi-role fighter known for air superiority capabilities like powerful sensors, highly maneuverable, high specification missile arrays. Russia might be planning to secretly send Su-35 fighter jets to Iran, which would greatly improve Iran's air force. Russia has also offered to help Iran develop spy satellites and build.
