Kiev: Expecting a major Russian attack – “They are pounding our rail network”
Zelensky: "Russia wants a victory before the May 9 celebrations" Ukraine warned
on Friday that Moscow was stepping up attacks on Ukraine's rail network in a
bid to cut off military supplies in the face of a new Russian offensive, while
Kiev awaited new arms deliveries from the US.  Kiev fears Moscow will apply
major pressure along the entire front ahead of the symbolic and grand Victory
Day celebrations on May 9, as both sides continue to launch deadly cross-border
strikes.

Yesterday, Russian troops targeted multiple railway infrastructure facilities
across Ukraine.  In Donetsk region, 3 railway workers were killed.  In Kharkiv
region, 10 passengers onboard a train were injured as a result of Russian
shelling of the railway station.  As a Ukrainian "security" official said today
to Agence France-Presse, the bombing of the railway network by Russia is not
only aimed at Western aid, but also foreshadows a new attack by Moscow.

Railway infrastructure is critical for Ukraine, both for passenger transport,
trade and the military, because since the start of the Russian operation in
February 2022, as air transport in Ukraine has been suspended.  "These are
classic-type measures before an attack," the official said, speaking on
condition of anonymity.  As he said, the goal "is to paralyse deliveries, the
transport of military cargo", he added.

Russian military destroyed the Marder infantry fighting vehicle of the
Ukrainian Armed Forces near Kalynove.  The flag of the 114th brigade of the
